Health and Well Community Grants 2022

Submissions for the Healthy and Well Community Grants 2022 closed on 11 November 2022.

Has your community group got a great idea for helping people to be healthy and well?

The ‘Healthy and Well’ grants support community organisations to start, continue or expand programs and activities that help people to be healthy and well.

Ten grants of up to $5,000 each are available.  Grant programs or activities must be delivered in the Northern NSW Local Health District footprint (the areas covered by Ballina, Byron, Clarence, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed Councils).

Priority areas

Your grant application should fit into one or more of the priority areas listed below:

1.     Healthy recovery: helping our communities get back to healthy eating and active living post-floods.

2.     Healthy start to life: Healthy living from conception through to age five.

3.     Healthy ageing: Moving more and eating well to stay strong, feel good and prevent falls, for people over 60 years of age and older.

4.     Healthy mind: using healthy eating, physical activity and social connection to contribute to mental wellbeing.

5.     Healthy mob: healthy lifestyle programs and activities for Aboriginal people and communities.

Assessment criteria:

1.     How well does the application address one or more priority area/s?

2.     Will the project or activity be sustainable beyond the grant funding? 

3.     Does the application use a partnership approach, with one or more organisation working together to maximise outcomes?

4.     Is there co-contribution to the program or activity?  This can include human resources or co-funding.

5.     Did the target population have input into, or will they have input into, the design of the program or activity?

6.     Do the grant activities present good value for money?

7.     Does the application have clear objectives and strategies and the capacity to collect and interpret data to evaluate project outcomes?

8.     Is the initiative consistent with Australian Dietary Guidelines and Australia’s Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines?

Who can apply?

To be eligible you must:

  • have an Australian Business Number (ABN), or complete an ATO Supplier Form
  • have an account with an Australian financial institution
  • be located in the Northern Rivers, or service the Northern Rivers;
  • and be one of the following entity types:
  • a not-for-profit incorporated association
  • a not-for-profit organisation with other legal status
  • a Government, Catholic or Independent school

or, be one of these organisations partnering with one of the above:

  • a company incorporated in Australia
  • a partnership
  • a sole trader

You are not eligible to apply if you are an:

  • unincorporated association
  • overseas resident/organisation

We will not fund:

  • Projects that are primarily research-based. Applicants are however encouraged to consider partnering with research institutions.
  • Projects that primarily focus on fundraising, prizes, competitions, awards or conducting conferences and events.
  • Travel and accommodation costs will generally not be funded. Such costs will only be considered, to a limited extent, if it is demonstrated that they are essential to the outcome of the project.
  • Fees for attendance at conferences and trade exhibitions.
  • Costs associated with major capital works, vehicles, building works etc.
  • The purchase of food that is not associated with a food skills or nutrition education program.
  • Applications for food skills or nutrition education training projects that do not contain evidence of the consultation of an appropriately qualified nutritionist or dietitian. (NB Health Promotion can do this if you need us to).
  • Costs associated with projects that have already taken place.
  • Costs of products or activities, which are core business of the organisation. These include infrastructure costs associated with running a business (e.g. employment of core staff, equipment, core programs, leasing or property maintenances) and activities for which other Commonwealth, state, territory or local government bodies have primary responsibility.

Selection process

Eligible applications will be scored and ranked based on the assessment criteria by a grant review panel.

 Key Dates

Applications open: September 19 2022

Applications close: November 11 2022

Outcomes announced: December 9 2022

Progress report due: June 30 2023

Completion report due: December 31st 2023
