Information about packaged foods for babies

Packaged baby foods can be convenient, but they may also have added salt and sugar. If you choose to buy baby foods, check the nutrition label and pick options with:

  • No added sugars, fruit concentrates or other sweeteners
  • No added fruit juice or purees (in savoury foods)
  • Less than 50mg of sodium per 100g

If using squeeze pouches, feed baby with a spoon instead of letting them suck from the pouch. This helps them practise chewing and develop oral motor skills.
